There’s a black lesbian making the rounds on the 700 Club and such. She’s written a book or two and tells folks God told her to leave her girlfriend and live life as a cishet woman. My sister bought her books and asked me about her, getting very defensive when I wasn’t even a little impressed. Let’s say my Pentecostal sister searches for loopholes and leave it at that.
“But this is her story, and it’s true and it’s powerful. How can you JUDGE her so harshly when she’s part of YOUR community?!” said Sis.
“She left my community, for now. She has a right to earn money from Christians eager to believe this is even possible, which it isn’t. I want to read her story when she’s 60 and honest with herself, not 30 and profiting off denying herself as God made her.” This and other such discussions are why my sister and I aren’t speaking. She left in a righteous huff after I suggested she watch “Pray Away” and see these folks actually come to Jesus.
